For most of my life I’ve been self-employed. Every dollar I spent came from my own pocket. I know first-hand that paying a bill I don’t understand and can’t validate doesn’t feel right.
Often in business, you have to listen to your instincts. If you have a sneaking suspicion that your power bills are higher than they could be, you’re probably right. Sniffing out those savings for you is what I do. Sometimes it’s tens of thousands of dollars at once.
I came to the electricity brokering industry following a change of life and career. “How hard could it be?” I thought. I’d successfully run my own Finance Brokering business previously – surely working in the electricity industry would be pretty similar. Wrong.
I soon found that buying electricity is not all it seems to be. In fact, it’s hard to even tell what it seems to be due to complicated contracts, hidden fees, obscure charges, retailer variances, metering variances, price variances, distributer variances … and the list goes on. Power providers like things this way. It’s a billing maze and they’ve built it specifically for your dollars to get lost in.
If the industry wasn’t such a complicated mess, we wouldn’t have needed the ACCC Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry at all. But we did need it. Anecdotally, I have had customers telling me for years they’ve felt overcharged and powerless (excuse the puns), and the inquiry’s report backs them up:
